NATIONAL RESEARCH FRAMEWORK DOCUMENT
Roman pottery studies provide a major source of information for the Roman period in Britain representing a key asset for advancing knowledge and addressing specific questions. The Study Group for Roman Pottery regards it as essential that work within this field is well focused upon agreed short and long term objectives which are achievable.

NORTH OF BRITAIN
This research design covers northern England north of the Humber-Mersey line, the Cheshire Plain and north Wales, together with Scotland

WESTERN BRITAIN
This research design covers the western side of Britain, approximately south of a line from Aberdovey to Crewe. Specifically it covers the West Midlands region, the Welsh borders, the South-West of England and most of Wales. 

THE EAST MIDLANDS & EAST ANGLIA
This research design covers the civitates of the Catuvellauni, Corieltauvi, Iceni and Trinovantes which roughly corresponds to the East Midlands and East Anglia.  

SOUTHERN ENGLAND
The present area of the Southern England Regional Group incorporates London and its hinterland (some of south Essex, Middlesex etc.), Kent, Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, south Berkshire and east Wiltshire.
